Chapter 4: The Universal Sunday Law

What does the Bible say about the worldwide resurgence of Roman
Catholic influence before the end of time?
          Revelation 13: 3, 8- "One of the heads of the beast seemed to have had a
      fatal wound, but the fatal wound had been healed.  The whole world was astonished 
      and followed the beast.
          "All inhabitants of the earth will worship the beast--all whose names have not
      been written in the book of life belonging to the Lamb that was slain from the 
      creation of the world.

What favored nation will lead out in the enforcement of Sunday observance?
          "This very class put forth the claim that the fast-spreading corruption is largely
      attributable to the desecration of the so-called 'Christian sabbath,' and that the 
      enforcement of Sunday observance would greatly improve the morals of society.  This 
      claim is especially urged in America, where the doctrine of the true Sabbath has been
      most widely preached" (GC 587).
          "Foreign nations will follow the example of the United States.  Though she leads 
      out, yet the same crisis will come upon our people in all parts of the world" (6T 395).

How many nations will follow the example of the United States?
          "As America, the land of religious liberty, shall unite with the papacy in
      forcing the conscience and compelling men to honor the false sabbath, the 
      people of every country on the globe will be led to follow her example" 
      (ibid. 18).
          "The Sabbath question is to be the issue in the great final conflict in
      which all the world will act a part" (6T 352).

What one world religion, in particular, is concerned with enforcing 
Sunday observance?
          "As the Sabbath has become the special point of controversy 
      throughout Christendom, and religious and secular authorities have combined
      to enforce the observance of the Sunday, the persistent refusal of a small
      minority to yield to the popular demand will make them objects of universal
      execration" (GC 615).
          "All Christendom will be divided into two great classes--those who keep 
      the commandments of God and the faith of Jesus, and those who worship the 
      beast and his image and receive his mark" (ibid. 450 [9T 16; 2SM 55]). 

What will happen to Seventh-day Adventists who cannot comply
with the Sunday law?
          "The decree enforcing the worship of this day is to go forth to
      all the world...Trial and persecution will come to all who, in obedience to
      the Word of God, refuse to worship this false sabbath" (7BC 976).
          "The whole world is to be stirred with enmity against Seventh-day
      Adventists, because they will not yield homage to the papacy, by 
      honoring Sunday, the institution of this antichristian power.  It is
      the purpose of Satan to cause them to be blotted from the earth, in 
      order that his supremacy of the world may not be disputed" (TM 37 
      [RH Aug. 22, 1893]).

What effect will the false revival have upon most nominal Christians?
          "They declared that they had the truth, that miracles were among 
      them...that great power and signs and wonders were performed among them, and
      that this was the temporal millennium that they had been expecting so long. 
      The whole world was converted and in harmony with the Sunday law" (21MR
      325, 326).
