Web Design

At the University of Advancing Technology I studied Interface Design, Color Theory and several programs/languages for designing interfaces (HTML, Flash, Director, and a few others). Since then I have learned many more (ASP, PHP, CSS, JavaScript, SQL database). I have many website templates that I can use to keep costs low, or I can design a custom website just for you.

I hand-code everything, and am obsessive about my code being neat. Not only for my own sanity during the design process, but it also saves load time on larger pages and improves cross-browser displayability. I use Dreamweaver, but rarely allow it to write the code itself. I can use either ASP or PHP depending on your needs, and I can use either tables or CSS for layout if you have a preference.

WordPress-based site

Pros: Quick, extremely cheap and you can update it yourself. There are lots of plugins that can be added to your site, many pre-made templates (or “themes”) or I can make a custom theme so that your site is completely unique. It’s also quick to get your site up and running, adding plugins as you find you need them.

Cons: WordPress has a set structure. While there’s a lot of flexibility within WordPress, if you need specific functionality such as a CRM database or other specialization, or you just don’t want the “WordPress look”, this is not the way to go.

Template-based site

Pros: Relatively quick and cheap. My templates can be customized to the extent that your budget allows.

Cons: If you need an extensive amount of customization, a fully custom site is less work than heavily customizing a template.

Custom site

Pros: Complete flexibility in design and functionality. Whatever you want is what you get! If you want a BLOG included, WordPress can be customized to seamlessly match your site.

Cons: This is the most expensive and time consuming option, and adding features later on can be more costly than requesting them at the beginning of the process.

Webdesign is the core of my specialty. Everything else I do is to direct people to or enhance your website. No matter if it’s a large 200+ page site like No Bull Mortgage, or a simple half-dozen page site like Aunty Saro’s Kitchen, your website is your identity online, and I’d love to help you make it the best it can be!
